I'll be honest, I'm not very good at it. I think I'll stick to automated washes, because they do a much better job than I. Also, I (read: a mechanic on the other side of town) replaced the front brakes, which not only stopped the world's loudest screeching, but should stop the brake dust from getting the front wheels so filthy. Only time will tell. Have a tropical Citroen.

Haha, keep practicing, I haven't brought my car to an automated wash in about 6 years!

^This. No automtaed carwash can beat a proper hand wash. Start from the top down 1 panel at a time. Wash the panel, rinse, start the next panel. Don't forget to dry with a waffle weave microfiber when you're finished!

Maybe try some different soap and wax products?

I NEVER take my car to auto washes. All the things there (If it has big rollers) just pick up dirt from the other cars and put it on to yours. All it does is scratch up your clear.

Haha its funny for me, because my girlfriends father owns a car wash. She and her father always tell me to go wash my car there, and that they would give me interior cleaning and engine bay cleaning, and polish for free! Issue is, I have never been with Oliver to wash because water can get inside through a little spot, and I am a bit embarrased by that. Also, if my car breaks down (Which I have experience to back that assumption) I would be so embarrased. My next car though WILL get all the treatment with them. The place is called Washarama, check it out!

I recieved an Armor All 10pc gift pack, so I used the stuff from that. Is Armor All any good?

If I am ever in Mexico, and I need a car wash, now I know where to take it!

Sort of. Since it was free, and you don't do it too often, you won't be screwed. I don't use any Armor All stuff.
There are great tutorials on proper washing and waxing techniques all over the internet, look a few up. I love washing and waxing and detailing and all that fun stuff.

Its very cool. Free Wifi, laptops, Two and a Half men, and better than everything: BMW Brochures (Including for the 1 series).
Yesterday I went with my Girlfriend to hang out and I configured the 3 series and 1 series in my head with all the little dots whilst my girlfriend tried to make a Sporcle quiz of the most important 100 people on the planet.

I don't particularly enjoy washing and detailing my car the way a lot of people do, the same way I don't enjoy working on the mechanical parts of my car the way a lot of people do. Once an a while it's fun, but it's not something I want to have to do on a regular basis.

One of the car washes near us has windows all through the tunnel so you can sit inside, eat popcorn and watch the cars get cleaned, because the run the car through for you. I'm not embarrassed to admit that I find it just as entertaining now as I did when I was 6.

Part of the problem is, an automated wash takes about 2 minutes. The wash I just did, even with help, wasn't very thorough and took 45 minutes. When I don't have help, and if I'm trying to do a full wash/wax, it could take 1 1/2 to 2 hours. This is fine once in a while, but it isn't something I want to have to do every 2-3 weeks. Plus, washing my car isn't as much fun for me as other people seem to have washing their's. I don't mind it as such, but it isn't like, "Oh, yay, today I'm gonna go wash my car!"

Keep doing it, and you'll find that it gets a little easier every time!

There is nothing to be embarrased of, hell, I got entertained from watching inside as well! A couple years before we took it to an automated one in which you left the car in neutral, and it would all wsh around you. We loved it as kids, though one day it caught fire...

That's how our car wash works. You pull in, put it in neutral, and then a "conveyor belt"takes you through the car wash.

Automatic washes always leave dirt beneath the mirrors, in the trunk recess, door handles, etc. The wheels are never clean. Plus they never dry very well. They also use really aggressive soaps that will strip any wax protection from your paint after more than a couple of washes. I always feel ripped off paying $10 plus to get a halway cleaned car with water spots. I do use them in the winter though.
